Hey Olli, have you heard Dicky Betts album "Highway Call" from 1974? He recorded it under the name of Richard Betts. Pretty much the same lineup as the video you posted (John Hughey, Vassar Clements, et al and the addition of Chuck Leavell on piano)- the tour was probably to support the album. Lots of Dicky's country sound on this. |

"Highway Call" is an awesome album. Mostly original songs by Dickie Betts from the "Brothers And Sisters" era. Bought the LP when it was first released. Bought the cassette so I could listen to it while driving my truck. Bought it again when it came out on CD. Lotsa cool steel playing and reso playing on this record. Never get tired of listening to Richard Betts, Vassar Clements or John Hughey. This is a record that gets better with age. Thanks for the link, Olli. Never would have dreamed that Hughey ever played "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed." |

I remember buying this album in 1974 when I was busy working on my Dicky Betts/Allman Brothers electric guitar licks. Thinking back on it, this must have been fairly revolutionary at the time to have extended pedal steel "jams" on a country rock album. I'll bet Mr. Hughey had some interesting stories on a tour bus with Dicky Betts |
