My father had a vintage late 50's double neck 8 string steel guitar stolen from him last July. He was the original owner and he bought it new. Christmas is coming and I would like to replace it for him with one that is in good condition and from possibly the same era. I don't play the steel but I understand from talking to my mother that certain ones have longer necks and that is what he prefers. As this is already November, I would consider a steel that is not a Fender provided that it meets all the other criteria. Sure hope one is out there as I would love to put a bow on it for Christmas for him! Thanks!

If it puts anyone off that I am from Canada re shipping, or payment, I wish for this instrument, should I find one, to be sent to Sierra Madre, California and it would be paid for in USD.

Hi Lavonne
Are you looking for a pedal steel guitar, or a non pedal?
Fender single 8 non pedal were only available with the short scale.
Good luck with the search...Jerry

Single 8 Fenders might only be available in a short scale but DOUBLE 8's, which is what Lavonne is looking for, were made in different scale lengths.

I may be mistaken, but the original post said single 8 long scale, but the post has been edited, and a picture added, after I responded.
Looks like a 24 1/2 " scale D8 Stringmaster is what Lavonne is looking for...Jerry
There is one for sale in my neck of the woods, if you PM me I will give you the seller's ph#.

It did say single neck initially.
I think the guitar in the photo is the 26" scale as it looks like it has the slider switches.

The early Stringmasters were long scale: 26"
That's what this one is (and it's not for sale).
If your dad's guitar had the slider switches and the long scale, it had to be from the early '50s, not the late '50s.
