Just received this guitar from Al Brisco. I believe the body and most parts are from the late 60s/early 70s. Anyone have any insight? Totally redone underneath with a triple raise/lower changer. Unfortunately someone drilled into the face of the guitar. I may try and cover it up with a name plate or something.
I'm finding that the weight of my right hand is making some strings (especially lower ones on C6 neck) touch the pick up. I wonder what the standard distance between string and pick up is or if it is just my heavy hand.
Thanks.

Ryan:
First of all, Fulawka guitars are the bomb! And if it came from Al Brisco, you can be sure it was set up properly.
I am not too experienced a player (about 18 months), but I also play a D10 and if you think your right hand is pressing the lower C6 strings down to the pickup, I think there is something wrong with your technique.
Do you mean when playing the E9 neck your forearm presses the C6 strings down? If you have the pickup switch set to just the E9 neck you shouldn't hear the C6 strings. If you mean when you are playing the C6 neck, then maybe you aren't holding your right hand in the correct position, or you are sitting too low or too high when trying to play?
Do you have a local player that can observe your technique and give you a hand? I took a few Skype lessons from John McClung and he helped me adjust my seating height and the tilt of the guitar to get all of that stuff right.
Cheers,

Used to be a shilling (mid '60's) could pass for a Canadian quarter. |

every double neck i've had got marks on the c6 pickup from the heavy strings rubbing. either resting my arm or playing hard. it's no big deal to me. nature of the beast. the strings should be fairly close to the pickup. ...or maybe my technique has just been wrong for over 40 years.
oh well...too late now! |

You get more sustain if your pickups are a little ways from the strings. |
