Paul has the most space alotted to any steel that's not playing a cadenza to a Conway Twitty tune. Vince had the host spot for 30 minutes; real cool groups on that segment. Their treatment of "Together Again" is evolving into how to take a beautiful song and make it more beautiful. Vince's phrasing is always fresh from the last time you heard them live. Tonight, Paul Franklin played from start to finish saying "yes" to each moan and plead from Vince Gill. The steel solo was two chouses! It also had some suprises. |

This is Teresa, Tommy's wife. My sign on for the forum doesn't work so I'm using Tommy's. Both Tommy and Paul played together with Vince on both shows at the Grand Ole Opry tonight. The song was "Together Again". Tommy filled the first verse and played the first solo. Paul filled the second verse and played the second solo. They both shared fills on the last verse. It was a significantly historic event for steel guitar at the Opry thanks to Vince Gill! I'm so proud of both Tommy and Paul. |

A steel players dream, hearing two great players behind Vince Gill. I bet it was magic at the Opry last night. |

I heard it on the way home. It was pretty much magical.
Is this where we start lobbying Paul and Tommy to find a way to do an album together? |

It's mostly a live radio show; the great majority of the time there is no video from an Opry broadcast.
Sounds like you had to be lucky enough to either be there in the audience or be tuned in when it happened. Sounds pretty cool though, wish I'd heard it. |

I *THINK* that WSM archives their shows for about a month. I'll do some checking _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Looks like they archive a lot longer.
You can hear it later, when they archive it, at

Theresa, thanks for the correction. I had no idea Tommy was in on that. What a great treat that was. I don't recall hearing Vince making an attribution if he did. |

Hi, Teresa White again. Vince Gill did indeed give lengthy intros to Paul and Tommy as both being arguably the best to ever play the instrument. |

What Teresa said. I was back in the dressing room as we had just finished our set, and heard Vince kick-off "Together Again". I ran back over to "our" side of the stage to catch the whole song. When it came time for "the ride", Paul had already set his bar down, straight up on the front neck (see picture), signaling to Tommy that he had it. Near the end of Tommy's ride, Vince looked at Paul and smiled, allowing Paul to take his turn. It was awesome, as was the comment Vince made after the song was over, backstage. The song and the night was magical...
