I happened to pick up some brass Dunlop fingerpicks a few weeks ago, when I was at a show where someone had a quantity they were getting rid of. They've become my current favorites. Two questions:

1. How many favor brass over whatever the others are made of?

2. Are the brass ones a little harder to come by?

I tried them many years ago and didn't like them. They were too soft and they turned my fingers green.

I didn't mind them except for the green finger thing...

I use brass Reso ProPik. They DO NOT turn my fingers green. They are comfortable and have a softer tone, and that's MY preferance.

As far as I know, there is no shortage of them.

I have the brass Dunlops and they don;t turn my fingers colors.
They bend into shape nicely and don't cut off finger circulation, while staying on well.

I found them great for practicing. My fingers don't get near as sore as they do when I use my regular metal picks. I find the tone I get from them doesn't quite suit me though, so when I'm doing a gig or recording, I use my regular picks......Regards, Carson

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I'm using the .020 Brass Dunlops right now. Somehow I couldn't use a (nickel-silver?) Dunlop bigger than .018 and like the feel and sound on my MSA. I suppose all this could easily change.

Without doing exhaustive research, I just noticed that the few suppliers I was aware of didn't bother carrying the brass Dunlops. I take it they're still pretty readily available though.

Just wanted to know if I needed to start hording them, or if they were "worth anything."

I use the brass. I recommend the .025. You don't want the pick to give when you hit the string. It puts all the control in your fingers when you have a solid pick.
