Well, the awards just started on TV. The first 30 seconds was enough to make me change the channel. Nuff said. |

That's the SCCMA - So Called Country Music Ass'n. And no, I'm not watching. The wife flipped to it, said there was some sort of hard rock on, and changed the channel. |

I rented a couple of movies earlier today. Later at home, I was going through the TV guide when I saw the CMA Awards listed for this evening and wondered if the renting of the movies was a subconscious thing, or if I had just crossed over into ...

I watched a few parts of it and The George Strait and Alan Jackson tribute to George Jones was the best part of the whole show. They sang He stopped loving her today. I think the steel player was Paul Franklin. I never got a direct shot at him but who ever it was sounded great and had great tone as well. |

I wonder why every time this subject comes up the thought of "Grumpy Old Men" comes to mind? There are those who lament the demise of the Polka. Relax. _________________ Die with Memories. Not Dreams.

I watched a bit with my girlfriend. she liked the music a lot. I told her, the guys on the steel guitar forum are probably having a stroke right now. Her response: let the youngsters enjoy their music. They wouldn't do it if it wasn't selling. Like most people, she just enjoys the music for what it is. |

I couldn't endure enough of it to get to George Strait and Alan Jackson part. What I saw was pure unadulterated rock and they still call it country is what pi**es me off. It's even gotten where you can't understand the words any more or I can't anyway.
I know why they do it, they want to appeal to young bunch that will buy CD's and go to concerts but why don't they just call it rock cause it ain't country. _________________ Henry Matthews

One of the great technological innovations for television in the 21st century is the DVR.
I haven't seen the whole show yet because with commercials it ran three hours, but I can't imagine anyone who thinks along the lines of many of us here actually sitting on their couch and enduring the whole thing from start to finish. I saw a few things I enjoyed last night, and with the wonders of fast forwarding on the DVR I can distill the show down from three hours to about a half hour. _________________ Mark |

I don't watch the CMAs because, frankly, I don't like the music. But over on another forum, The Gear Page, people are saying it was the best CMA show ever. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

You got it mark..--I expect to look at it and fast forward to anything I like. I don't expect people like only what I like. But I also don't have to hate what others like. For some thirty years I got to do what I enjoyed in other words I had my time in the barrel. Whatever the case is now the music is selling and a lot of pickers are working. Those with one dimension minds simply are not. |

And for the most part Mike, neither do I, hence the DVR.
But I did come across a few things that I thought were pretty good. For example, I'm not a fan of Taylor Swift, but on the other hand I don't have anything against her, though I guess I'm "supposed" to. I do think she has some redeeming value as a songwriter, compared to the typical "Let's go have some fun in my pickup truck down at the lake, I'll bring the fishin' poles if you'll bring the Pabst Blue Ribbon" songs that seem to be the norm, and this is where the DVR comes in handy.
She did a an acoustic song which included among others, Alison Krauss, Vince Gill and Sam Bush.
Apparently Vince is okay with being onstage with her at the same time, because when he, Paul Franklin, Dawn Sears and company played here in Santa Rosa last week he mentioned the upcoming appearance with Taylor at the awards show and referred to her as his "little buddy." _________________ Mark |

I tuned in for about 15 minutes, saw the George Jones tribute with Strait and Jackson, which was pretty good. Then Zac Brown with Dave Grohl - No, not "country" at all, but pretty energetic and creative. Not bad.
I couldn't give the south end of a northbound rat who wins any of the awards. |

If that's what you call rock, it's pretty lame and crappy rock.
In fact, I think calling it rock is an insult to rock music.
I just call it what it is.
It's Hillbilly pop.
I turned the channel after about 5 minutes of viewing. I thought it was a bunch of drek.

Well the CMAs have come & gone for another year and what a three ring circus it was again
I think the CMAs are so far out of the box these days that the following caption should be shown after each commercial ,,,
