Topic: No chrome bullet bar? |

| Hi fellas, I'm mostly a lurker here. I play dobro but have been getting into lap steel and actually just got a pedal steel. I'm looking for a bullet bar that is stainless steel but not chrome plated. My hand breaks out in hives when I use chrome plated bars. I like the Dunlop Jerry Byrd size for lap steel and something a bit bigger for the pedal steel. Anyway, any suggestions is much appreciated! |

Jim Burden is a forum brother and makes stainless bars that many use and like. He makes it to your specs, re: diameter, length, shape, etc.

Ditto on Jim Burden. He makes a great bar, is very responsive to special requests and ships quick.

Another vote for Jim Burden. I have two of his bars.
The first one is about 10 years old. Still looks
new, no scratches or nicks.
He uses a very good stainless steel.
I bought the second to serve as a backup in case I
lose the first one. |

James, if you use a stainless steel bar you might need nickel wound strings.
If you use stainless steel strings, there will be slightly more drag on the wound strings, slowing you down. |

I don't know what the composition of my 'strangs' are but I started using them when Jerry was a proponent of this belief.
I use GIBSON=Spanish Guitar strings on my Rickenbachers and they sound fabulous. For those of you that aren't familiar with Jerry's arrangement, it goes like this:
Top "E".........2nd string
"C".........2nd string
"A".........2nd string
"G".........3rd string
"E".........FLAT WOUND
"C#"........Flat Wound
"C".........Flat Wound
I get no string drag on the multitude of slants I use. It's seamless tone/sustain. I've used them for years along with a Dunlop Jerry Byrd bullet bar. |

I love my solid zirconia. I cannot scratch it. I have even dropped it on concrete (Not good. It could shatter)
It cost $150, but what do guitars, amps, and mikes cost?
I weighs slighty less than steel, but it has plenty of mass. Sounds great, plus no scratchy sound.
I can't remember who I purchased it from but I found him on the internet and probably The Forum right here.
Here it is on my K&S Weissenborn at the Muir cabin near Juneau, AK.

James I have a 1" bar 3 1/2 inches long and it is solid Aluminum that I will sell.I bought a 1' round aluminum bar and we mad for bars from it and I also have the same lenth bar with it drilled out and it is a lot tighter and filled with glue stick that I filled with a glue gun.I will take $30.00 for either one of them if you or any one wants one of the. I also have a JBS Bar that is 3?4 inch and It is new I have used it about three times I will need $35.00 for it..I also have a Emmons standed bar the I drilled it out and it is a light as a feather and it is filled with the glue gun. That is $35.00.
