I got an email from a Michael Frank today offering to sell me a bunch of discs with 800 backing tracks, instructional videos. Not sure if this is the same scam that's appeared on the forum occasionally that's discussed periodically. But if it sounds too good to be true BUYER BEWARE.

I just got an email from Ben Larsen who is willing to sell me his Palousek courses that he put on dvd. Six 2 hour courses for $55.00.

Does anybody know anything about Ben Larsen? I sure don't know how I'm in his database. I think it's our old buddy Ron Steenwick again. BEWARE!!

Well, look what just showed up in my email. Somebody sure knows how to spell that last name that I couldn't. I guess now I'll just miss out along with Steve and b0b. Oh well......

Duane, I am not this Steenwijck character.

http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=2156235&highlight=#2156235

You are in my contact list and assuming that I am this fraud is insulting me to the fullest. If you are not interested in my material then you should have contacted me but instead you claim that I am this fraud and above all, you are posting my name and associating me with him.

All profits from the material would have gone to Steve and a forum donation would have been made but as of now I am pulling my offer. I will let b0b and Steve know that thanks to you they won't get anything.

Have a good day sir.

Ben

Given the past incidents with an almost identical type of offer, one has a right to be very suspicious. If it was a legitimate offer was it posted in the forum for sale section? (if not it should have). Contacting someone direct, with something like this, because of past problems, sets off a red flag.

Hummm...... I too just got this email
subject is GP

Hi Ken,

it's Michael Frank. I emailed you a couple years ago about tablature and I have something that YOU might be interested in Wink..........I am letting go of all the backup discs that I created from my country and western collection, PSG courses and backing tracks and I wondered if you might be interested in all this. These discs contain over 800 albums with country music from the late 1950's till 2010. The country music contains complete collections and the majority of these collections are highly sought after by many.
All albums were backed up by me for insurance purposes, but since I switched insurances companies (and all the original albums are fully covered) these discs became obsolete.

Included in this package are 1500+ backing tracks (see list attached to this mail), 132 instrumental albums and 15 courses (see list attached to this mail).

I am letting it all go for $100 (shipped to your door). If you are interested let me know.

Mikey

that 'ben larson' response is so defensive it convinces me that it 'is' fraudulent. i would think the 'real' ben would be more understanding.

From Wiki;
"Joe Btfsplk was a character in the satirical comic strip Li'l Abner by cartoonist Al Capp (1909–1979). He's well-meaning, but is the world's worst jinx, bringing disastrous misfortune to everyone around him. A small, dark rain cloud perpetually hovers over his head to symbolize his bad luck."

I don't see "Ben Larsen" listed as a Forum member. That's really generous of him to offer to make a Forum donation to b0b as a non-member though...hmmm. I'm also willing to bet that Steve P isn't too happy to have pirated copies of his videos making the rounds...

Offering forsale copied courses and music alone is enough to to put a person's character at issue.

Wow Ken - I thought that guy was shamed into pulling that stuff down. I guess they have widows and orphans in France too Wink

As for the rest of you guys....you may be impeding the greatest advancement in pedal steel since the bar holder! It isn't easy to fund the building of an all pull guitar that sounds like a push pull!

I'll bet the guitar will have nothing but positive reviews: unkind words getting met with litigious threats.
