I love this excerpt from the Rolling Stone article..

"One chord is fine," he once said, alluding to his bare-bones guitar style. "Two chords are pushing it. Three chords and you're into jazz."

On one of those long weekends in the summer of 74 every place I went someone played the R & R Animal lp. That included an overnight trip to KY. Love the guitar intro to Sweet Jane.

Try and keep a dry eye through this one. Goodbye Lou... I may not have always been listening to you, but I always heard you.

The Hunter/Wagner guitar team is what really opened the popularity door for Lou on that live LP and that intro is specifically what did it. Prior to that Walk On The Wild Side is all most knew of Lou and few looked into his past to learn about his band The Velvet Underground, yet today millions site VU as inspirational. They were arty creative NY druggies that didn't care much and most of their actual fans were dead by 1980. Without Lou VU would have probably continued to be virtually unheard/unhearald and the music world would have been a bit different. The guy has left an indelible mark.
Duncan, I think a lot of people can relate to your statement. We're better off having Lou even if we didn't pay much attention. Another interesting musician is gone.

The quote has been attributed to Brian Eno from a 1982 interview in which the musician and producer reportedly said the Velvet Underground's first album only sold 30,000 copies during its first five years but that “everyone who bought one of those 30,000 copies started a band.”
