This guy has a Emmons 3/2 with case in great shape. Is it worth $700.? It would be to learn on.

I'd try for less, but if the seller resists, I'd buy it.
Unlike most student models, that's fairly simple to add more knees to. And many think the Emmons student model sounds slightly better than the pro models.
I always recommend a n00b have a player test them to make sure they're adequate and not shot. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Excellent student model guitar at a fair price if it's stock, which it does not appear to be.
The left-knee-right lever appears to be a Sho-Bud. The three silver metal straps on the underside do not appear to be factory issue. Find out what the three screwheads, or whatever they are, on the front apron are for. One is beneath the logo and two are near the opposite endplate. Never seen them on any other GS-10. Check the underside for any modifications that appear to use non-factory parts.
All of the above factors should limit the pricing for this instrument. If the modifications can be easily reversed, I'd jump all over this guitar, especially at a reduced price.
Even in its modified condition, this would be an excellent guitar for a beginner. GS-10 guitars have exceptional sound. Adding additional factory knee levers can be quite expensive, but you won't need them to learn to play.
Disclaimer (my opinion only, many will disagree):
Beware that you may get hooked on "that sound," and few other instruments will measure up to the high standards of tone inherent to these old Emmons push-pull pedal steel guitars. |

I cant get to craislist right now but theres another one for sale too in north atlanta. Its a wraparound with four pedals and one lever. Set up C6 currently. He said he could set it E9 or whatever you want. I would most definatley look at that one too. I believe the price is right at 700 |

i would learn the correct terminology before stating anything as fact incorrectly.
the only thing that may 'wrap around' a student model (the one you're looking at) is the vynil covering. |

Agree with James.
That 8-string C6 looks like an 8-string Black Rock with an extra pedal. Appears to be 4x2. Nice Case. Low miles. Likely an awesome guitar. If I was in Atlanta I'd check this one out for sure!
Think the 8-string is 'mica, but that GS-10? Don't know what they called that finish. Anyone know for sure? Is it really vinyl?

The Emmons GS-10 w/2 levers for 700 is a very good deal. The 8 string would be worth a lot less, to me at least. I happen to own a GS-10, mine has 4 knee levers and it's an super sounding guitar. Mine is set up perfectly and plays great. I also own an Emmons D10, I think the GS-1 sounds better. I'd get the 10 string. |

no offense but let's try to get back on track here.
jack..you agree with james...that the pictured guitar is a wraparound with 8+2?
c'mon.there is nothing 'waparound' involved and 8+2 would indicate 8 pedals and 2 knee levers, which this 8 string steel clearly does not have so before you confuse anymore uninformed people, try to learn a little more about things before posting falsehoods 'as fact'. please! |

I'd pay more for the 8 than I would for the 10. The 8 is a lot rarer guitar, and with the full end-plates, also a lot nicer looking guitar! |

The seller in Atlanta used the term "wraparound" incorrectly when referring to the endplates, though they do in fact "wrap around" the cabinet.
That said, the 8-string Black Rock is a pretty cool instrument, like for early 50's-60's E9 w/o diatonic strings country, or set up with a 6th tuning a' la a Fender 400 w/knee levers. Vintage stuff, but that's simply my old timer's take on things.
Pretty good end-user price for the 8-stringer, IMHO. Just sayin'... |

Agree with everything Donny & Herb wrote. The Atlanta 8-string Black Rock is one you won't see everyday. Like a push-pull Fender 400. Appears to be in awesome original condition and priced quite fairly. |

The 8 stringer is not a Black Rock, though it appears similar in design and features. That 8 string guitar is a GS 8 from the 60's. Its confusing some of you as it does have endplates with ears that wraparound the body as they all did back then. The later model pictured has the 70's end-cap/endplate design. One can tell that its not an S series(pro model)guitar as it has no full metal or wood neck, only the raised wooden platform, similar to the one on the later Black Rock model. Good price on either one though. |

thanks mike, for lending a little stability back to a forum that is tending towards disaster. if everyone continues spewing something they heard from some other uninformed source, there will be no credibility from which to draw. people ask for info here to get well informed answers, not to just hear themselves talk like the twitter generation. |

I think Chris is a bit of the class clown in here, but isn't usually malicious, and often jumps in to point out when someone (sometimes me) did a poor job of being clear. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
