I've been keeping an eye out for one of these to pop up. I have heard that these are a great steel to start with, and they have a great tone.
From searching the web I have also found that there may have been a few variations on the student models, some of which were better than others.
There is actually one up on the for sale thread right now asking for 1300-1500...
..and I have also seen some of these go for as little as $450 (also saw this one on the for sale thread, although it was a while ago).
So, my question is, how can I tell which one of these are the better models?
One of them has popped up in my area for $700 (3 pedals 2 knee levers) and I am going to look at it this weekend.
Does this seem like a good deal?
Is there anything I should look for in particular?

I started out on a student model Emmons-three pedals and one knee. Mine is a 1974 Emmons student model. I got it for Christmas in 1999. It's a great steel to start playing on and it's got great features. |

I have that exact guitar. I upgraded it to 3 X 4 and I play it much more than my Emmons Pro Model. I would grab it at $700..these guitars are light, and they sound wonderful. |

If you see any GS-10 for $450 pull the trigger. Their parts are worth more than that. |
