I want to install a tunable split for string 6 on one of my guitars; I got my extra rod and all, but I want to make sure I putting it in the right place.
The changer is triple raise, double lower;
The B pedal is attached in the middle hole at the changer;
The rod pullers (aka bell cranks) have 7 holes;
The 6th string lower on RKL is attached on the 6th hole, one before last (hole #1 being the closest to the soundboard).
So I'd like to know where to attach the rod, and also, do I need to change anything with the RKL the way it's setup now?
If this isn't clear I'll add pictures. Thanks! |

| .Alex the split rod needs to go to the raise finger, but you dont need to pull it much, I would go with the least travel you can. |

I have the splits on my guitar in the top hole (closest to guitar body) of both the bellcrank and raise finger. And, yes, it goes on the lever that lowers the string.

That's where they are on my Carter (setup from the factory), but I agree 100% with Mark. If it's working, leave it alone.

Success!!! Thanks to everyone who chimed in (pun intended). I really missed having that change. You got your minor chord in the open position with the B pedal and the lever, and the 7th chord with a+b+lever, it's so useful, plus all the chromatic moves you can do with F#, G, G# and A and in the same spot.
The hex nylon tuner is sticking out a bit, but these tuners I got were an extra 1/8" longer, so all and all it's sticking out 3/16", I suppose that's not a big deal.
Next week I'm going to install compensators on both F# Strings...

The chromatic moves you mention are one of things I love about the 6th string lower. A lot of melody stuff you can do between the pedals down position and the 2 frets down 6th lower and E to D# lowers.
I have to admit that I never use the split to get the minor in the no pedals position. But the split that gives the 7th, I use a lot.

I love the change/split for all the reasons Richard mentioned, but also to get an open G-natural: very handy for combining open and stopped strings down low.
