Interesting :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/350901705421 ( FENDER LAP STEEL STRINGMASTER QUAD 4 x 8 CONSOLE VINTAGE ELECTRIC GUITAR )

http://www.ebay.com/itm/350901700521 (1946 RICKENBACKER RICKENBACHER VINTAGE LAP STEEL ELECTRIC HAWAIIAN SLIDE GUITAR)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/300991771699 (1955 FENDER LAP STEEL STRINGMASTER QUAD 4 x 8 CONSOLE VINTAGE ELECTRIC GUITAR)

It'll be fun to watch considering there's no reserve.

I got dibs on the brown quad!! Laughing

The seller believes that this is Leon's original blonde guitar and Leon stripped the finish off, routed the body to reduce the weight, and had the electronics altered.
I think the guitar has lost much of it's value due to the alterations. It's no longer the blond Quad with Leon's name on the front. And there's no proof that it ever was that guitar, although the tags on the case prove that this guitar was owned by Leon.

I've edited the original posting by Cartwright to include the third auction. Both quad Stringmasters are available. Here's a previous discussion.

Ah... a third auction, for the brown Quad. Winking

I saw Leon play back in the 1970s and he was playing a brown Quad. It could be the one that's for sale on eBay, not sure.

I'm also wondering about the vague description that it's the blonde guitar he's often pictured with. He played so many guitars. The blonde quad that I think of is his early 26" chrome p/u and lollipop tuners (pictured with Leon in the auction) and this obviously isn't that.

The shaded walnut one is interesting, since I don't think I've seen a short scale quad before---not saying it's unique, though. Plus, it's missing ashtrays and two selector buttons...not a big deal considering it was celebrity owned, which is the main selling point...but describing it as otherwise original is a little sloppy.

Still, a surprising collection!

Doug, that is one of Leon's quads. One of several. Missing from this auction is his very early Telecaster, or Nocaster, I forgot which one I saw the day I visited this collection three years ago, there were a couple Teles there. Also, the Leon Multi Chord is missing I think that is the pedal rack in this photo) and that creme colored lap steel and his wife's overnight case with parts inside.

Incredible. It will be fun to watch to see how much goes for. If nothing else.

Coincidentally, I just got a picture book on the Golden Age of country music, and there is a photo of Web Pierce on stage with Leon dated 1970. On the part of his quad Stringmaster where it is visible, you can clearly see four customized toggle switches as is pictured in the auction photos of the natural finished one.
