I started hearing clicking sounds from the changer end on my Emmons LeGrand. After looking at it upside down in the case and activating the A and B pedals, the rods as they come out of the changer going to the turnbuckles, are moving slightly at the holes on the changer. It appears that the nylon adjuster nuts may be worn or the metal hole that the nylon nuts rest on are slipping slightly to the side just as the pedal is activated, which is causing the pop. It is only happening on these two pedals - the most used ones.

Anyone ever have this happen? Easy fix or not?

Thanx,
Jim

No big deal. You have a pull rod or two that is bent where it passes thru the changer. Most likely happen when some was doing a set-up change.

Just remove the rod or rods. And straighten it or them.

Jim, some times just tightening the return spring 2 or 3 turns will cure the problem.

The pull rods need to be freely resting so that they lay to the bottom of the hole they pass through. If something is binding and they are held away from the bottom edge of the changer hole which they travel though, they will snap or click as they are engauged.

Thanks for the clues. I don't think the rods are bent since they have never been altered since I got it new from Emmons. However, I will carefully recheck everything suggested.

Thanx,
Jim

A rod doesn't have to be bent much to cause the click..

This is a common problem with several makes of guitars which shall remain unnamed. Never seen it on a Legrande. But anything is possible. If one or more of the springs are starting to give way due to old age. Or they where faulty from the factory. Lower return springs on a LeGrande usually just break, (Actually it's very rare they break.) or last forever. But by all means check for this.

If you have built up gunk between the raise member and lowering member? This will cause excessive drag which adds extra stress to the lower return springs.

If I could turn it up side down and work the pedals I could tell you in a heart beat.

Well that's all the ideas I have off the top of my head. You'll find the problem. It's nothing serious.
