So sorry to hear that. Another one of the classic Texas Troubadours is gone. He was a great guy and a great singer for sure.
My condolences to his family.
RIP, Mr. Smith

I use to make a delivery in Nashville every week, and while eating breakfast at Cal's Country Bumpkin Cafe, one Mon. morning, Cal asked me where I was from, and if I was a picker. We sat and had small talk, and coffee. He was a very nice man, plus the breakfast was good. Good Memories. |

Being a Tubb band member then mov ing on to a solo career, Cal had one of country music"s smoothest voices. Very pleasing to listen and hear the pure country feeling Cal exhaled. Another great loss in our world of country music. |

Another Texas Troubadour gone. Cal was great, I liked a lot of his music. I was hanging around Nashville in the early 70's and went to see him at the Ryman... or maybe it was at the new Opry. Anyway, it was an inspiring show, with Dumplin' on steel. I talked to him on the phone in Branson once - Cal Sharp/Cal Smith He came out to our show that night and sang a couple with us, and I sure enjoyed backing him up. _________________ C#

Cal Smith sure was a good guy. I remember doing a few shows with him and Dumplin' in the mid 70s too. Good music and lots of fun. RIP now with The Lord Cal Smith. |
