Another one has left us, Cal Smith. Many had the honor of working with him a throughout his music career. He was one of Ernest Tubb's Troubadours and worked with new Hall of Famer Lynn Owsley. Noted for being a lot of fun to be on stage with, as well as off stage too. Him and his Wife Darlene were very nice folks. God Bless Darlene and the family.

Good bye "Country Bumpkin"

Worked shows with Cal, and always enjoyed his mild mannered approach to a song and his winning personality. RIP Country Bumpkin. Your work on earth is done.

I remember Cal from the early years , way before ET or Bumpkin , I was a kid and there was a television show from the Bay Area {California} called the Hoffman Hayride . Cal was a star on that show . At that time his voice reminded me of Hank Thompson . For you trivia buffs , his name was Grant Shofner . I'm very sorry to hear of his passing .

This is so sad, I too had the honor of working some shows with Cal, he was a real treat to be around. His stories would would keep you in stitches! As we would go on stage our sides hurt so bad from laughing, it was hard to get through the first set, especially when we would look at each other and remember the last story or two. I think that is why he always had such a smile on his face - he knew he could crack you up at any time.
Our prayers are with his family, truely a great loss.

I called Smiley Roberts this morning and informed him. He was one of the last Steelers to work for Cal.

Cal Smith: Back on top where he always belonged:

Here's Cal with Buddy Charleton & Leon Rhodes. It just doesn't get any better than this:
