Topic: For those looking for Turbine Oil |

| I was working on my furnace yesterday and got out the oil I use to lubricate the motors. The bottle says Turbine Oil. It is a 4 oz. bottle by Norvey Inc. Santa Ana California. Only about 2.50 a bottle. Put Zoom Spout Oiler in Google search and it should take you to it. It has a pull out spout that will pull out a foot or so. Works great. Good Luck. |

this little bottle from Norvey says parafin base and I read somewhere that jet turbine oil is parafin free, Do you think it matters , I`m sure its 2 different oils but they both say turbine ????

I'd never you any parafin based lube on a steel guitar.
Especially on the changer, it will gum up in time, and
can be a lot of work to remove it when this happens. 
I only use 3 in 1 oil, Tri-Flow, or sewing machine oil.

Right. Jet turbine oil is a synthetic, and furnace turbines are a different critter (a squirrel cage is a form of turbine after all).

With petroleum oil, paraffin based does not mean it has paraffin wax in it. It means it is based on molecules of long chains of carbon. Paraffin wax is also long molecules, that's why it's called paraffin. The alternative is aromatic, based on rings of carbon. Paraffin is more stable than aromatic and is what you want. |

| The last post picture is just like the bottle I have that started this post. As for paraffin base that is also know as Pennsylvania Crude. Oil from Pa, WV, New York, Ohio and KY produced oil. Many of the oils from other parts of the world have a tar, yes TAR base. Then there is synthetic. Sperm oil from the Sperm Whale was used for clock lube for hundreds of years. | I had not seen this oil in our local Ace Hardware store in the lube section. A couple days ago I was in Ace getting a couple furnace parts to work on my furnace and in the furnace parts and Thermostat area was a display box of this oil, Suppose they keep it for furnace motors. |
