I am going Guitar > Lil Izzy > Black Box > Input of amp because I want to go from black box to amp without anything in between. I am using the pre EQ patch for my volume pedal, so I am running the "3 cord hookup" I have my RV-3 looped into the post EQ patch.
I have been wondering if it makes any difference whether the volume pedal or RV-3 are run Pre EQ or Post EQ. I just tried them both ways and I really could not tell any difference.
Is there a correct vs. incorrect way to do what I am doing?
Thanks.

As noted in a similar thread the other day, the two patches run at different levels. I'd check the specs on both the amp and the reverb, selecting the loop with the best match. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

According to Peavey manuals; running pre-gain for VP, post-gain for effects is the recommended method. |

David, I think that varies with effects type.
According to Ken Fox in http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=252904 (the post i was thinking of), the rack mount boxen expect line level. But stomp boxen generally expect instrument level, a much lower voltage.
While some do well with the hotter signal, I've had some gadgets that clipped badly in the loop. I had a CE3 that had an uncontrollable fuzz chorus _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Running my 120 pedal and RV-3, the Peavey recommended way, is the way I am going to stay. Perhaps a Hilton or Telonics pedals have more output and that could change things or if I was running rack mounted delay and/or reverb. If it ain't broken, don't fix it. I just wanted to make sure the way I am doing it is OK, and Peavey says it is, so that's good enough for me.
As always, thanks for the help.

George, since the RV-3 is a stomp, after reading Ken's post, I think I'd put it on the pre loop as that's not line level. I don't think you'd hurt anything your way, but I suspect the reverb will work a bit better at the lower levels of the pre loop. Not to mention fewer long cables. Two round trips from the amp seems odd. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I dont use the pre loop. I plug the steel right into a Hilton VP to the input of a NV 1000. I run a bunch of foot pedals (including MXR Dist+, MXR Carbon Copy, Boss RV-3, Boss TU-2) in and out of the post loop with no problems. Maybe just lucky, but I do keep the pre gain pretty low (around 2.5~3) and turn the master up (4~5 is usually plenty). I send the line out XLR on back to the PA. |

The Post EQ loop on the N112 is fine for pedals. It is the Pre amp out/Power amp in loop thqat is too hot.
On N-400 amps you do not have the option of a Post EQ loop. |

Oops. I read here and I learn stuff every day. But it seems I learn the wrong things sometimes. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
