A wonderful show at the Country Music Hall Of Fame honoring Buddy and his contributions to the steel guitar, today.
A big thanks to Steve Fishell for putting it all together. It was a great stream too.
I imagine they are getting the show ready to post on their website. There should be a better link coming up, but this is the one to watch what happens: http://countrymusichalloffame.org.

I was fortunate enough to get one of the tickets and attended live. It was a religious experience. Then got a chance to meet him, express my appreciation one on one for him leading me to the steel guitar, and then got a signed Hatch print. |

I got the last standing room only entrance and I am so happy I got to be there...Fish and Bill Lloyd did a great job, as did all the players. I got to visit with Dan and Buck and a few others. Wanted to say hi to Buddy, but I had to get to a gig in Knoxville and the line was just too long...awesome afternoon to say the least... _________________ John Macy

Some great music of course, and even better some great (and funny) stories from the man himself.
Big thanks to Steve Fishell (again!), and everybody else from the Country Music Hall of Fame and Americana Music Association that helped put this together. |

Buck Reid, Dan Dugmore, Duane Eddy and band sounded amazing. Blue Jade and Half as Much were stellar.
Thanks to Steve Fishell for organizing this. It was a privilege to be in the audience. Getting to meet Buddy and chat with Steve and Tommy White was icing.

Dylan... I'm glad you got to witness this great event! I feel so incredibly lucky to have been asked to participate and thank you for your kind comments. I think you meant to say "Half A Mind" and don't mind saying I've never been so happy to be that nervous. Wow... what a great day!! _________________ www.BuckReid.com |

Thanks for the correction on the song title, Buck. I think I typed "Half As Much" instead of "Half A Mind" due to having Hank Williams on the brain in honor of his 90th b-day this week.
Your playing was stellar, as it's been every time I've heard you. |

Buck Reid, thank you so much for loaning me your guitar for the Buddy Emmons tribute.
I'm with you, never been so happy to be that nervous!
You played beautifully. Hearing you play and visiting with you was a highlight of the day.
Thanks again my dear friend.

Tommy... you are very welcome! It's always a pleasure to hear you play anything and to knock it out the way you did on a strange guitar under those circumstances was that much more impressive. First class my brother and hope to see you again soon. _________________ www.BuckReid.com |

I watched the stream and was surprised to see Tommy on a JCH, before I realized it was Buck's. Both you guys sounded great on it, needless to say. I was deeply moved, enthralled from start to finish. This event may have been overdue, but my suspicion is that it might have happened sooner if not for Mr. Emmons' understandable desire for privacy in recent years. I hope he had as good a time as all who attended and viewed. Again, thanks to all who participated on stage and behind the scenes, and to Mr. Emmons himself. Without him it wouldn't have been much of a party, and we all might be playing other instruments. |

To shed a little light on Buck and Tommy's comments on being nervous: not only were they playing Emmons classics with Buddy watching and listening, but Buddy was sitting right in front of them in the front row, facing them from just a few feet away.
Also consider that the likes of Weldon Myrick, Mike Johnson, Doug Jernigan and lots of other distinguished players were also in the audience.
Dan Dugmore was on the other side of the stage, without Buddy right in front of him, but I'll bet he was nervous too! All of them did a great job.
Tommy, I gotta say your trade-offs with Pig Robbins on "Nightlife" were particularly awe-inspiring... |

As I watched the stream I was completely blown away by so many aspects of the show... Mostly the GREAT Tommy White commenting this instrument would not exist today without the persistence of Buddy Emmons innovating and improving it.. It would have died on the vine in the 60's... Tommy and Buck showed their humbleness which really spoke volumes about them and their respect for the instrument and how they feel about Buddy... You two are now the champions of this instrument and we need you guys out there blowing the minds of the next generation...... There is a starving audience out there for some really hip playing. |

The show was broadcasted on a live stream so you can't watch it anymore. Let's hope that someone will put the video on youtube or on the CMHOF website soon. |

I'm intrigued! Tommy's a 'Day' player but I'm not sure about Buck - unless TW played on just the C neck then his accomplishment is all the more remarkable.
I wish I could have been there!
PS: I just checked Buck's website - he plays 'Emmons'. I thought that was the case and I recall him noodling on my 'Day' D-10 with no appreciable handicap at all! "Who ARE those guys?????" _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

I recall Tommy only playing the C6 neck, but it was certainly still remarkable.
edit:(I was reminded that Tommy did take a solo on E9 on Mansion on the Hill. Amazing).

The 'Concert and Conversation' Tribute program was Priceless.
Great to see the players respect for Buddy, and hearing The Big E share a few personal stories...such as practicing in the dark with no amp....Wow.
As Tommy White so distinctly stated.... 'He not only invented it, He defined it."
Buddy's love for Peggy shines on.... Such moving words.
Let's collectively hope the Country Music Hall of Fame takes the next step in appropriately honoring Buddy........... via formal Induction.

Ron I agree with you. I think Buddy, Lloyd, and Jimmy Day belong just to start. Along with Pete Drake they helped create the Nashville Sound. Not taking anything from Weldon, or Hal, or Jimmy Crawford but I think these guys in my mind were the ground breakers. |
