I may be wrong, but I think I remember someone telling me it was Robbie Springfield (a really young Robbie). Killer playing for sure.

That is indeed Robbie. An amazing player then and now. Think he was like 16 at the time of this recording?

Scott... That is what I remember too. Amazing what some could play when that young.

EDIT: Did a search and found a good thread about this from 2007/2008. Jim Loessberg sets the record straight.

He is GREAT!

One of the first that I've ever heard that even comes close to playing and sounding like Buddy Emmons/Lloyd Green.

It's reassuring to realize that there are great pickers out there in the hither-land. I could listen to him all day and never tire.

I have the album, and it sure says Robbie Springfield on the back cover. He's just as good on the slow country songs like "Mama's picture" (with some of the creepiest sad song lyrics Iäve ever heard, BTW).

To think that he could play this way at 16 is totally mind-blowing. Totally mature playing, second to none.

At the time, I understood he was 15? We featured that song on a Sho-Bud Showcase Show in 1975 when I was with Gretsch! I remember it was played on a red Sho-Bud!

Living in south Louisiana most of my life I have played and listened to this song forever. This is by far my favorite version. Superb pickin' and a great pocket on a good song to start with. It just doesn't get much better.

I remember Bo taking me with him to visit with Frenchy and his band around 198o when Frenchy had a little time to kill so he parked the bus in Clayton NM and stayed a few days.

We lived there and I think Frenchy or someone in the band had relatives or friends there.

I remember the band set up and played ( kind of a practice session ) at the old Wagon Wheel Bar one of those nights

I remember Bo was smitten by Robbies playing and from the time on his interest shifted to the
PSG.
But a little later on Bo discovered Paul Franklin and pick blocking and got away from Robbie's style.

So I blame Bo's lack of success on not sticking with Robbie. Laughing
