I would like to know a safe way to copy and save a youtube video on the computer or make a dvd or cd. Thanks in advance.

Use http://keepvid.com/.

How to do it...

Open up the YouTube video.
Copy the URL in the browser address bar.
Go to http://keepvid.com/.
Paste the URL in the box on keepvid.
Answer yes to the security questions.
Wait a few seconds until the box of links shows.
Select the format of the download you want.
Save it to your computer.


This does work, and work well, I use it at church all the time to play videos on our projection system. It also works for some other video sites as well.

For Firefox, there's a free "Flash and Video Download" Extension (Add-on) that's the simplest and most flexible one I've used.

It optionally lives as both a Toolbar and Status Bar icon, and, when there's a video anywhere on the page, you can click the icon and see a drop-down list of many downloadable video formats to choose from. You can choose where on your hard drive you want the video saved.
