Topic: Playing with a broken wrist.. |

I don't know if this might help anyone.
I broke my wrist 4 weeks ago and the cast got in the way of my bar. I had a gig last weekend at a State Fair and had to play. After 30 years together, I couldn't say no. Here's what I put together:
Its a Stevens bar, I took 2 large nylon cable tie's and used a product called 'Goop' to mount 'em. the orange things on the ends are pencil cushion grips..they hold em together. Its kinda heavy but I made it. Heres a video from the show...I didn't have to play much till the second song

Your tenacity and dedication to your instrument and talent is to be applauded. Hope your healing is quick and complete.
Most people that follow the steel guitar know the story of Billy Hew Len. When he lost most of his left hand in an accident as a teenager, he re learned to play after having a specially made glove to fit over what remained of his left hand.

| Very clever, Steven...nice to see your "show must go on" dedication. I remember reading a post by virtuoso guitarist Steve Morse about 10 years ago. He took his son to a skateboard park and instead of just watching him, tried a "demo" and fell and broke his left wrist. He had it set while he was chording a guitar neck so the doctor could get the angle correct....and never missed a show! |

Thank you all for the kind words...
Actually, only half the show went on, because...
I'm also a Bass player in another band, and in the middle of a song, I tripped and hit the deck, breaking my wrist. I did save my Bass, but the wrist just wasn't turning.
The drummer saved my bacon and called a friend to finish the show ~ And the last four shows.

If I go skateboarding, do I have to have a guitar with me, just in case?
