Due to physical issues, am really struggling w/the overall weight of a steel, the case, amp, etc. Is anyone making lighter weight cases? I don't need a super sturdy one as am not shipping it or traveling via plane, etc. As for the guitar itself, I guess I need to go for a S-10 (rather than SD 10), but any suggestions for a lightweight but very good quality steel? |

GFIs are lighter. They are wood top with aluminum sides and ends. They will sound different than an all wood guitar. I have their student model and am very happy with it. _________________ Amateur Radio Operator NA4IT (Extra)

I may, in fact, be nuts. However, I am screwed onto the right bolt... Jesus! |

I'd think any of the "flight ready" guitars: Mullen Discovery, ETS, Justice ProLite, Stage One/Encore. If you like push-pull, there's the Lone Star.
There's LOTS of modern guitars. This is a good time to have options. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Justice Pro Lite at 26 lbs. or Justice S-10 3X4 at 22lbs. I have the lighter of the two and it's top notch. |

If transporting it in your own car have a look at padded gig bag eg Gator, some have wheels, and use a separate case for rack and legs , such as a gun case, certainly worked for me.See the thread "Solved weight issue" lots of ideas there. _________________ MSA Millenium SD10, GK MB200, Sica 12inch cab, Joyo American Sound Pedal/ Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp, Telonics 15inch in Peavey cab, Digitech RP150, Peterson tuner.Hilton volume pedal.Scott Dixon seat and guitar flight case. |

Kevin Hatton can make you really good light weight cases.
He made a 2 piece for my Ritt and a 2 piece for my Mullen.
They sure lightend the load a lot for an old man like me. _________________ aka "Lucky Kay"--Custom built Rittenberry SD10 3X5, Walker S/S, NV-112, and Hilton Pedal |

Malcolm is right; see the above thread re weight issues. Carrying the guitar in two cases, especially the Gator zipper cases gives some relief.
I sold a GFI S12U guitar a couple of years ago and since my back problems I'm having seller's remorse. It played nice, had a decent sound (could have been tweaked to sound better). The guitar was very light, probably some 8 or 9 lbs. lighter than my Zum SD12U. I found that engaging the knee levers moved the guitar back and forth a little too much and I think the weight was the reason. GFI's have aluminum legs, lighter than the steel legs most others have. The pedal rack is extruded aluminum and heavier than the Zum's. Still the guitar was light and had I carried it in the Gator keyboard case I now use, it would have been a delight to move around. There may be another GFI in my future. |

No airline in the USA or western Europe were able to hurt my GFI. And some of them really tried. _________________ On Earth, as it is in Texas |
