I want to thank Vince Gill for deciding to to do a duet with a Steel Player instead of a Singer.
He couldn.t have picked a better or more humble steel player than Paul Franklin. They make a good team. I hope the record is a success and I already have my copy and wearing it out.

A very compliment to Steel Guitar Players.

Available at Wal-Mart. Wow. These 2 unknown artists have finally made it. I always said that if they just kept practicing, they just might make something of themselves. Laughing Laughing

But seriously, awesome CD. Got mine from Amazon. Arrived with the CD case broken, but the CD is in great shape. They also allowed the downloading of the Mp3 files for free when you buy the CD.

Amazon is good that way, Richard. I remember getting an e-mail from them a while back, offering me free downloads of all CDs I'd purchased through them. I didn't need it, since the first thing I do with CDs is RIP them to my PC.

Bakersfield is also available on iTunes.

J.R., the Finger Lakes is a great place to be this time of year. We're from the Corning, NY area and vacation often at Keuka Lake. You might want to go Okie before winter though. Wink

Amazon was good for me because I got the Mp3's several days before the CD arrived. Cool either way.

I usually rip CD's too, but I hate the way programs always put the track number first in the file name. I end up having to rename them all so they stay alphabetical in my Mp3 player, or computer software I use to play the files (Virtual DJ).

Hopefully the few quids I've sent you were enough to cover the costs. I thought a Thank You in a pm would have been quite decent.

my amazon order had the case broken and package mutilated, but the CD was OK.
I don't know what they did to it.

This CD might be the "Corn Pickin' & Slick Slidin'" for the new millennium. With vocals.

Peter,
My thinking exactly! In fact I ordered "Corn Pickin' & Slick Slidin'" from Amazon right along with my preorder for "The Big E" for a couple of reasons. First, it bumped the order over the magic $25.00 threshold to qualify for free shipping. And secondly, "Bakersfield" reminded me so much of that old record by James & Ralph, and I missed listening to it. Can't play the old records anymore -- don't have a record player!

Jack, if you have a good collection of vinyls you may want to get a $99 turntable, connect it to your PC soundcard and record them to digital.

I'm really enjoying this album, especially Branded Man.
is it just me, or is the steel tone a little shrill at times? It seems to have that 'cup your head off' tone in places and I find myself having to adjust the treble control on my devices. This isn't on all tracks, and definately not Together Again.

Again, maybe it's just me. And I'm still enjoying the album.

i love the album but would have loved if they emulated the sound of the production a bit more. how could would it have been had they recorded on the same type of machines buck and merle actually used? just being nit picky, the album is great, and paul franklin is amazing.

loved this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phDJy_IiR1Y) especially about minute 11... blew my mind!

Damien, I tend to agree with you on this one. I found Paul's tone to have more upper-mid harshness than I like. Fortunately, his playing is spectacular enough for me to get past it.

Adam, I'm thinking the goal was a tribute to Bakersfield, not a replication. I have most of the originals anyway, and asking Vince to sound like Merle might be a trick too. Wink Seriously, I like what they did and that they stayed true to the Bakersfield sound but added their own distinction.
