Yes they were there- at the Culver Saloon in L.A.last night (9/20) with Dave Stuckey & the Rhythm Gang. Wakefield was playing a Rickenbacker double 8, standing up, into an old tweed amp (couldn't tell the brand -not a fender), Biller had a tele into a nice old Standel amp. The band was swinging. Great harmonic interplay and unison licks. Dave is a fine singer and rhythm player with good stage presence. He gave the boys plenty of instrumental time. Catch them if you can. They are heading north to Seattle and points in between. Thanks for the tip Chris and Ricky.

Makes for one helluva show, doesn't it? Jeremy Wakefield makes it all look so easy. For that matter, so does Dave Biller.
It's so very inspiring to see a show like that. |

I was there too. By accident. I came to jam with the regular Wednesday night band, and was initially disappointed that I wasn't going to get to play. But that disappointment soon tuned to wonder at the extraordinary musicianship of both these guys. I had heard OF them, but never actually heard them before. I was completely blown away by both of them.
During the break I introduced myself, and Jeremy already knew of me too. As we chatted we discovered that we live about 2 miles from each other.
Hot Damn. I'm going to take me some lessons. |

Just a reminder about Biller and Wakefield appearing in Portland,OR thursday night with Dave Stuckey and his Rhythm Gang at Berbati's.They will be closing the show for my band Six String Eric and his Lazy Ranch Hands  See ya there! |

I caught this show at Sam Bond's in Eugene last night, and it was great! I have Biller & Wakefield's excellent CD, and I think their chops have improved since then, if that's possible. Jeremy tears if up on that Rickenbacker, and Dave Biller captures the essence of Django Reinhardt's style (on a Telecaster!). Both are nice guys, accessable and friendly.
Sam Bond's is sort ot an old-timey place with an intimate, down home feel, and no smoking, a perfect venue for this group. With their vintage instruments and amps, and Dave Stuckey's great songs accompanied by B&W's stunning musicianship, I was smiling all night, thinking that this is what the live music experience should be - real music played by real musicians, not too loud, not pretentious, just honest entertainment. If you have a chance to catch this show, don't miss it. |

I'd like to put in a word about Dave Biller, if I might.
Dave is a great guitarist. He's one of those cats that, IMHO, can get to the essence of whatever the style he's trying to cop, and assimilates it into his playing naturally. If you want Django, he'll do Django, and if you want Eldon, he can do Eldon. Don Rich and James Burton, no problem as well. He's a cool jazz blues guitarist, and his wife Karen (a fine drummer herself) tells me he can "shred."
(I think "shred" is a term the youngsters use when talking about a "rock" guitar solo. )
I've worked with Dave in about half dozen different bands including Dale Watson's band, and he played the excellent lead and rhythtm guitar, as well as helped arrange, my latest album. Really a pleasure to work with.
