I have a 2008 Fessy SD10 that since I changed the strings strings 4&5 come back sometimes sharp and then flat. I checked with Jerry and corrected my string size with some improvement. I cleaned the changer again some improvement but still can't play it. The spring on string 5 catches and it can be pushed back in place but still don't work right. Had fellow steeler from area came and spent much time playing with it to no avail. I also loosened strings 4-5 at nylon nut end and retuned still same problem. any suggestions? Thanks for looking. What's the spring catching on?

My guess the bottom of the raise finger.Toying with the return spring adjustment and oiling the spring were the finger brushes it should take care of the problem.

This problem is not that unusual to two brands of PSG.'s I will not name either. But feel it's a problem that should not happen even if the return spring is ill adjusted. I should add it may be necessary to change the spring if it's been over stretched due all the adjusting.

Nuff said.

I can't tell where it is catching.I even backed off the C pedal as it was moving with when ABare applied. I lubed the changer and found nothing binding. I put everything back in place and something is still catching or binding. It all happened when I changed strings, Bob

Is this no longer happening? I'd like to help. But from where I'm setting about all I can do is guess. You mentioned talking to Jerry. He's the best man for the job. Until you reach him. Check and make sure than none of the crossbars that change the pitch of string 5 are dragging.

I'm sure you'll figure this out before long. Best of luck.

Remember that the lower finger tugs stuff around while the string tension is off.
While unlikely, it might have gone cattywhumpus as you pulled it back up.
Try removing all the tension, then pull it back up.
Just a thought.

Thanks to all who helped. part of my problem was the springs were very loose. I tightened them up some and most of my problems are solved. When I started tuning my C pedal was causing problems and working very tight. I am learning as I go on the adventure. Bob

With just changing the strings, I can't see anything that would cause this except wrong string guages, or the changer being over-tuned. Question One thing to keep in mind is that a guitar that's merely had the strings changed should require very little adjusting of the nylon nuts. Also, always remember to play the guitar a few minutes before you start adjusting the nuts. The strings should have time to "stretch and set" before you go changing the pedal tunings. Smile

Thanks Don I have the AB pedals fixed I think now I working on the C pedal. I'm going to back off the nylon nuts and start over. It's been a learning for me as never touched a steel except to try to play and simple adj. I made my mess and I'm getting the better of it. I will let everyone know when its done. Thanks again. Bob

If the strings are not perfectly centered they will cause the finger to bind
