Cleartone is a popular one.
More expensive is the Peterson Strobe. |

I have PocketHz by Pocket Labworks. It's free.
There is also a song trainer included with the app.

I use the Cleartune and put the tempered setting on it and it works great. I hear you can use a line in adapter but never used one. The stage does have to be fairly quite to tune with it. _________________ Henry Matthews

I use Cleartone. Have programmed the Newman offsets into it. I plug one of the outputs of my hilton pedal into an irig then into the phone and have it on constantly. It works great. _________________ ETS S10, Fender Champion 6 string lap steel, Magnatone 6 string lap steel, Johnson Dobro, 1961 Fender Bassman, Fender Blues Jr., Fender Mustang III |

So is this right ? I purchase an app for say Petterson or cleartone and then I can plug my guitar into my phone and just use it as a tuner ?
Do I need something extra for the Petterson ? |

The Peterson does not have programmable offsets, e.g. steel guitar tunings like the regular Peterson strobe tuners do. You also need some type of adapter to be able to plug your guitar into the phone.
The Cleartone can be programmed with offsets for a pedal steel. But, you will still need an adapter to be able to plug a guitar directly into the phone. |

Right, Brendan. Cleartune costs $3.99 US, and then Petersen sells an adapter to plug into the earphone jack, I think it's 12.99 plus shipping (I think I paid 17 or so). Then your phone is your tuner.
BTWI bought my adapter on Amazon. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

+ 1 on what Jack said. You can buy the adaptor from Peterson, but not having the steel pre-sets, you can use the adapter with Cleartune. I have both apps, I typically use Cleartune for that very reason. It works VERY well. It will still work without the adapter, but you'll get the typical ambient noise problem if you aren't plugged in. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe. |

The one thing I don't like about the Cleartune, is that it's a bit of a pain switching between temperaments. Anybody know if you can load two Cleartune programs to one iphone..... two icons on the desktop..... one for C6 and one for E9? _________________ Jerry Jones |
