I have a question for all you Zoom users.
I currently have a Korg D3200, & like it a lot. I hear most Zoom users here say the R24 is the way to go..But as I see it in my reading you can only record 8 tracks at once. What happens if I want to record 12 tracks at once which I can do quite easily, (actually up to 16 on the Korg)...
For example in a live band situation, with main vocal, 2 harmony singers, micing drums with several mics, bass, guitar, steel, lead guitar, fiddle, etc.?
I also use BIAB quite extensively & a lot of tracks are Stereo.. e.g. Drums 2 tracks, guitar 2 tracks, piano 2 tracks, bass 2tracks, lead guitar 2 tracks, that's already 10 tracks. Now if I want to add vocals & harmony vocals, steel, & fiddle.. Where do I put them....So my question really is, is the Zoom R24 a replacement for my Korg.. I do want to get a Zoom for it's size & portability, BUT??

You will need 2 zoom R16's linked together. Still very portable and you can record 16 tracks at once.

Thanks Greg, guess I'll keep using the Korg. Won't gain anything by carrying 2 Zooms, plus the expense..

interesting, with BIAB, you make a stereo wave file for each instrument...you don't really need to record anything to another recorder. You drop those files into a Zoom project..all of them and assign them a track number(s) Recording 8 tracks is for LIVE at the same time.

Why are you needing all Instruments to be stereo tracks?

Tony I don't need them to be, BIAB tracks are Stereo in some cases, Real tracks for instance.. They are recorded by live musicians. I could go & choose the Midi ones that are Mono, but I'd be defeating my purpose of buying & upgrading BIAB..
You say drop them into a Zoom project, can I still have, 12 tracks & adjust volumes, pan, eq, etc. or once they are in the Zoom project they can not be manipulated ??.. Also if I have to chain 2 Zooms to get what I get with the D3200, I have a lot tied up dollar wise.. I'm still open to suggestions..
Just don't know what you mean by a Zoom projrct & how it works. Looked on You Tube for it but didn't see anything about creating a Zoom project.

When I say Zoom project I am meaning the session you are working on, the current project.

I also have BIAB with the real stuff..I don't use the Instruments but if I did I would pan them at zero, center and use them as mono tracks.I would drop the wave file into a mono Pro Tools track. The drum track, yes I keep that as stereo .

The R16 allows for 16 tracks total (without bouncing ) so I would imagine you could build your song with a stereo drum track and mono Instrument tracks.

The R16 uses 8 shared track faders etc...these are nice but maybe not what you are looking for to complete an entire project.
