It is all in the title, but I have looked every where for a recommendation for strings for my Guyatone, but could find no info beyond 22". At the moment it has D'addario XL half round mediums on it 11/14/18/28/38/49.
My novice lap steel ears tell me the top strings are too light, and the bottom strings have no tone, like when my son tunes his strat down to dropped C.
Help appreciated.

You might have to piece together a set on your short scale, but something like this set from our forum store would be a good start http://www.steelguitarshopper.com/JP-L6C/
If you find those gauges to be a little loose, then you can bump up a gauge for more tension.

John Ely has a handy page here that is a good read covering strings, gauges, and a helpful string gauge chart http://www.hawaiiansteel.com/learning/gauges.php
