Obviously the camera operator doesn't care for steel guitars or those who play them. Laughing Winking

As a Beginner, I love the Pedal Steel Guitar.
I have traveled 1000 of miles, just to see players
Like John Hughey, Paul Franklin, Dan Dugmore.
Steve Hinson, ( I posted a link on the Forum recently
Of Billy on WSM with Steve Hinson.)
It was my sincere wish to share the privileges I
Have of being in the Studio, at rehearsals etc.
I was never my intention to not feature a steeler.
I was with my good friend David Hartley today
With whom, I share many of my experiences.
I apologise sincerely to those whom I offended.
Many of you guys know, I have tabbed out
Stuff for many who have asked and I love to
Share whatever I can with fellow steelers.
Well I better get back to trying to play like you guys
Sincerely John

Hey John---it's a hot, hot day here and speaking for myself, I'm just having a bit of fun. I won't insult you by saying 'lighten up' but I'd be much happier if you just said that all's well and nobody's done nobody no harm. It's all good.

And Tommy--I didn't want to press the point but I'm glad you realized what I was saying. If you want the camera to focus on you, marry the heck out of the camera operator!

It's funny,(when the video was still up) I saw that I have two out of the five featured instruments.
A Sierra Steel, not identical to yours but a Sierra anyway, and a G&L Asat Tele, with exactly the same color. Btw Francis Rossi used one two.
I hope it's no offense to say that I might be able to stand in for the guitarist, but I would never be able to play as good as you.

John, I hope you'll put the link back up. I'd like to watch it. Doesn't sound like anybody was offended at all. Sounds like the usual problem of the cameraman not "finding" the steel player during their solos, focusing on the guitarist instead, etc. We all live with that sort of thing all the time. But anyway, I hope you're reconsider and put the link back up for the rest of us to enjoy.
Jim

Jim, you are exactly right. The commentary was about the camera shooting everyone but the steel player. Very common.

I spoke with a cameraman one time about this subject and he told me it was the control booth that directed the cameraman. Earlier that evening we were in the ESPN Sound booth at Raymond James stadium in Tampa during a Monday night football game. And there are multi cameras of course for such a big event. There were over a dozen screens we were looking at. I was wondering if the Opry uses multi cams and if they were controlled by the booth?

As a former TV cameraman, I can say the director is constantly in your headset telling you what shot to get. In a studio setting, you are an equipment operator taking orders, just shut up and listen! It can be frustrating.

At a sporting event, now it's up to you to follow the ball.

Respectfully,

Oops! Oh Well

Guess I put my foot in my mouth, eh? Oh, well, it's a good thing we're all friends here...

Anyway, I'd still like to hear Dave's playing.

More than once I've seen a camera focus on the guitar player when it's the steel's turn. Then belatedly it picks up the steel, just as that player is done and finished and you're looking at a musician doing essentially nothing!

Here is a video showing all the musicians.
I could not move around the theatre without disturbing the Audience. So I took this with my Iphone from a fixed position.
You can see and hear Dave on Steel.
Kind Regards as always
