Topic: Problem with C6 neck on my Carter D-10 |

Last night I was doing some fine-tuning to the C6 neck on my Carter D-10 when pedal 7 went slack and dropped to the floor.
I flipped her over to discover that the nylon washers on the cross rod had broken, and the cross rod was sitting out of its slot altogether. I put it back in place again and it worked for about two minutes then popped out again.
Does anyone know where I can obtain these nylon washers from? I'll try and get a picture of it and post it. Thanks in advance for all help, smart remarks and pictures of cats doing stuff.

I bet you could find 'em in a hardware store, the trick is finding the person who knows what and where they are.

Thanks, Lane. I figured nylon washers shouldn't be that hard to find, but still... You never can tell here in Australia (the land of, among other things, metric rather than imperial sizings)...

The downside of shopping from Al is that, although you have need of 5 bucks of parts, he has a $40 minimum order. PLUS international shipping

Are you sure the washer is the problem? It is a really thin washer. I believe the part that goes into the rail has a set screw in the cross rod that holds it in place once you get it in the hole in the rail. I would check that too. You might be able to get a washer at a good hardware store too. I have seen nylon washer at Orchard and Home Depot, but they may be too thick.
EDIT
Aha! Re-read your post and it is possible that the washer also acts as a spacer and if the spacer is gone, the shaft might move enough to fall out of the hole. ANd Fred's advice is real good.

Okay - well, there's something to be said for turning the guitar and just looking at it for a while. I figured out the problem - the three movements attached to pedal 6 had been undone too far with the hex key (wasn't me, I swear) and there was no tension on any of them, hence the flat pedal. I slipped it back into the frame then re-tensioned all three of them. Fixed. Phew. Thanks, steel guitar forumites - good suggestions all. I will now endeavour to act first and post later.
