I bought my first pedal steel from Reece & to this day I still use the bar & National finger picks that he gave me in 1971. He was a genuine unique human being.

Hey David, check out that MusicMan amp he's playing through. I have one of those and it still works great.... As for "Memories of Reece"... I have one that dates to around '69 or '70. Blackie Taylor in SoCal had a music store in Hawaiian Gardens at the time and he had an in store show set up with Maurice Anderson and Phil Baugh. This was before Phil's move to Nashville as he was living in Dallas. They had a bass player lined up to do the set(s) and as space was limited I was to operate a drum machine for them... Things went OK for a few songs and then we did a swing thing and the beat had been OK'd by both Reece and Phil and you could tell they seemed to be pushing things a bit.... When the song was done Reece said "That drum machine's dragging" and Phil said "Yeah, it ain't keepin' good time"... Me being a "sm@rt @$$.... I said "The machine's right on the money, you guys are rushing the beat!".... Reece asked if there was any drummers in the house and a couple were there so they just set up a snare drum and continued.... I mentioned this to Reece at Scotty's one year and he remembered the event and we both had a good laugh about it..........JH in Va.

Jerry, I'm sure that anyone who had dealings with him would have their own Reece story - he was that sort of person. I spent time with him in Dallas in 1971 & 1975,
& we developed a close friendship. He was positive thinker & I think it was this attitude plus his willingness to help & advise that would have left a lasting impression on all who had contact with him.

I bought my first steel in 1979 from Reece at the MSA site at Scotsdale. Is the picture of him in front of the building the same address?

Paul, this was the Scottsdale address. At the time that Reece showed me through it was very much a state-of-the-art facility in manufacturing. I presume that MSA still operate from here today.
