| I have heard that someone has acquired the machines and original copper wire for building the old original L-705's. Does anyone know anything about that? I would like to buy one if I could find the people behind this. The 705 was the best sounding pickup I ever used. |

| A German man in CA bought the machines and the rights to make these pickups and other of the older Lawrence guitar pickups. The specs are supposed to be the same. The only difference is that the newer 705's have a black wrapping instead of the chrome wrapping like the older ones. Some people say they don't sound exactly like the older ones. I have had the opportunity to play and hear guitars with both the old ones and new ones and can't hear 2 cents worth of difference. A lot of players and builders are using the new ones with much success and satisfaction. You can get these pickups on eBay or most steel related stores. |

| Thanks for your reply Dean. I knew about the San Diego based outfit but I heard someone else acquired the machines just recently. Maybe it's the same outfit and this person I talked to is confused about it. Thanks anyway |

I was reluctant to try these re-issue 705's after reading they were not as good as the originals. Previous "black" housing copies were manufactured years ago and had plenty of negative feedback.
However, after seeing a number of the builders using these current models in their new guitars I decided to try one in a Rittenberry I recently purchased. I am very pleased and quite amazed with the pickup to say the least. I have a couple of original 705's and my preferred pickup is Emmons single coils. But, I'm leaving the re-issue 705 installed for now until I can get more playing time with it. As far now, I'm very impressed and pleased with it as it sounds, to my ears at least, just like the original 705's.

| I just found out that Izzy from CA is still making these pickups. He was working Bill Lawrence back in the days when the 705 first came out. Then he bought the machines, so these newer 705's are with the same machines, same specs, same material except for the plastic wrapping. I know he made some bad ones several years ago but has since corrected the problem. |
