and Herb Pederson singing one of my all time favorite songs.. How could the song not be terrific with such a line up??? I played my steel to this hour after hour until I had it nailed down back in the day.. It was a formative song for me and defined my style then and does to this day..
Its a fairly obscure version, but its wonderful to hear it again .. This is the kind of music that transformed me into a steel player, and it sounds as good today as it did then.. Herb's version of Paperback Writer is also soaked with Al's steel and is a great listen as well.. I hope you enjoy this as much as i do... bob

correct... I remember wondering exactly why, back then.. Was pretty basic stuff, nothing fancy that would seem to require pancaking the steel tracks.... I have heard it done several times since, including a studio session I did several years ago.. The producer took 2 crappy attempts at a solo, laid them right on top of one another, and presto... Solo went from unusable stinkaroni to full blown barely adequate mediocrity in seconds!

| Chris Smith actually played steel on this track as well as several others on that album. Al Perkins does also play on some tracks. |

Great album! That version of "Paperback Writer" is one of my favs.
Some of my other favorite Al Perkins tunes are "King Of Broken Hearts" by Jim Lauderdale and "Old 55" by the Eagles, which coincidentally also has a doubled steel part.
