I have been fortunate enough to listen to some of Susan's recent recordings, as a contributing artist as well as her own recent recording, and I wanted to take a few minutes and write something about Susan's music. Then I think about how mortified she'll be when she sees it, so I'll be brief.

Susan is the greatest pedal steel player I have ever heard. Her artistry, expression, harmonic knowledge and technique are singular.

There, I've said it!

I walked into Pearls Cotton Club/Houston many moons ago & heard some really neat sounds coming from the back room, but couldn't quite figure out what type of instrument was producing the esoteric sounds. I went back & it was Alcorn on pedal steel noodling around before a gig.

Mike, I have to agree that Susan's chops and harmonic concept are indeed singular, and "formidable" (pronounced in the French manner)!

Buck, I know a little about music. You don't have to tell me to get a grip.

Maybe what she does doesn't appeal to you. That's fine. But she does things no one has and I believe no one can. If you haven't heard it, you wouldn't know.

I said she is the best pedal steel player I have ever heard. And yes, really.

She has taken the pedal steel guitar to places where no one else has, and for this she should be praised, not ostracized.

I'm going to ask that this thread be closed because I can see where it's heading--same old same old--and Susan doesn't deserve this shit.

For the record... it's not a matter of what you can do, it's what you choose to do!

Now wait just a minute boys, ya'll ain't herd me play yet. But I'm sure if you do, we'll all know, who's the best. Keep an eye out for my new record, on 8trk and cassette, at your local grocer. And some of instrumental parts that I couldn't translate to steel, I just had to hum, but I hope you enjoy!
