Ronnie Allen, former country deejay at WTTM in Trenton, NJ, offers an online game he created: http://www.jerseygirlssing.com/SnippetsOnDemand.html

He told me, "It has thousands of country song clips and several country music categories. I truly believe you would enjoy it and that many who share your country music interest would as well. Ah yes, there's plenty of Faron and Marty included here. The country categories go from 1944 through 1989. My game has received thousands of plays but thus far hardly anyone has tried the country music categories."

After posting my score of 63 in the "Country Hits: 50s" category, he said, "I am very impressed!!!!!! You shall, within minutes, be the first person enshrined in the Snippet Genius Hall Of Fame who has played a country music category. The lack of country music players thus far has been the only downer. But I believe that's about to change."

Better get ahold of my therapist. I have become an addict. I lead such a lonely and boring life.

You're not alone, Richard - I dig the game too.
Thoreau said, “Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.”
I think that's pretty much most of us. Most people find that the best they can do is to get by. Few are able to pursue their dreams. You make choices and accept the consequences, but most people choose the safe life and accept the consequence of quiet desperation.. Oh Well

And the John Lennon corollary to Thoreau: "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans"

(I apologize if the strong warning I had previously posted here offended anyone. So this post was edited, and an explanation of my opinion and concerns have been posted below.)

I make the hall of fame quite often, but I didn't want the hassle of the procedure to get listed.

I think his ulterior motive is to share his love of classic music, along with the challenge of designing a successful game.

For those concerned about sharing email addresses, it's always a good idea to have an email account just for the internet, so your personal address stays private.

It's a great game. I play it too much. The most challenging ones are where they just have music and no vocals. They usually get me. One thing I have noticed is, often several consecutive answers will be in the same location in the list of answers. For example, yesterday, I counted 6 in a row that the correct answer was the second one from the top. This sometimes helps if I really don't know what the right answer is. Many times I get lucky by choosing the same location in the list as the one before.

Here's a note from Ronnie Allen to clear up potential misunderstanding about his game:

"I worked for Casey Kasem as his east coast researcher on American Top Forty for 15 years (1972 through 1987) and have recently done private interviews with over 100 people in the music business. I have worked for years to achieve a good reputation and I value it enormously. I would never intentionally do anything to hurt it.

"I have spent hundreds of hours developing this game. To have a viable Snippet Genius Hall Of Fame that would be accurate, I needed a simple way to allow players to submit their 'genius' games with sufficient validation information. In the absence of such information, anyone could submit a bogus score and get it posted. When a game is played, I have no way of knowing who has played it. I felt the email route would be the best way. Any emails that are sent to me are strictly confidential.

"My email address is RonnieOldiesGuy@aol.com and I encourage anyone who'd like to do so to write to me, whether it's submitting a 'genius' score or simply commenting on the game. Ronnie Allen"

I like the game, and would liked to have posted my score. However, I'm not comfortable with giving out my email address to someone I don't know. While I have been assured by the games alleged author that nothing underhanded is being done, I'm still reticent to trust someone whom I do not know, regardless of his associations with "famous people". I also urge the author to remove the requirement for an email address. Look, I've played enough video and computer games in my day to know that posting high scores, with either initials or names, normally does not require any kind of verification. Typically, you earn the high score, and then the game takes you to another screen where you enter your name or initials alongside the score (which cannot be altered or changed) and you push "SUBMIT", and it's a done deal. You can't type in your own score, and no one else can change what you've scored or entered.

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, or belittle someone's hard work designing a game. That wasn't my intention. However, I do think it would be good to get an opinion by either b0b or Wiz on this...to see if I'm a little too paranoid about sharing private information.

I'll remove the original post and reference this one. Then, it's up to a moderator or b0b to tell me if I'm still out of line. The only reason I participate in this, and a few other forums, is to try and help people. And sometimes, I feel just a word of caution is good help.

Lastly, I will say that I do appreciate the civility and politeness of those who have contacted me, and I would ask they give thought to my intentions and sugestions.

Ronnie Allen sent me a note to says "Snippets On Demand" has been discontinued. He removed it from the "Jersey Girls Sing" website and it is not available anywhere else. He said, "When I developed it I thought 'fair use' would allow me to legally use portions of no more than 10 seconds of a recording. That is not the case. We have spoken to entertainment attorneys as well as several people in the copyright office. Making my game legal would cost us thousands of dollars in licensing fees."
