I just got off the phone with Gary Carpenter and he said Rains is still in business and doing well.
www.rainssteelguitars.com
the e-mail is listed and they do return e-mails.
Gary said you can get parts also.

I sure am happy to see Gary Carpenter set the record straight. Curtis Hogue bought the company last year and he is building a great guitar. Gary has still been involved for a while but is heading in a different direction. I have known Curtis for several years and he is one intelligent man and a steel player as well.

Paul is right. Curtis Hogue is making the Rains Guitars in Valley View, Tx. which is on I-35 just about an hour North of Dallas. You can get a new one and you can get parts. Curtis is friendly and easy to deal with. He's a player himself and a genius when it comes to building and machining.

Here is Rains email address: hogue3@ntin.net

Curtis took a Zumsteel that had been in a fire and made it look brand new. That guitar looked hopeless to me. I was amazed when Curtis finished it.

I sold my Rains, don't ask me why because I am not even sure why, and I am regretting it. I tried to buy it back and the new owner said, "no way." He loves that guitar. I did not have any complaints with that guitar. I just had one to many guitars and something had to go. It sold within 2 to 3 weeks.

My most cherished guitar is a Rains.
It was custom built for a Canadian steeler by Bob Rains and Mark Giles.
It is a lacquered guitar with mother-of-pearl inlay.

I was helping Bob out in his shop for a couple of weeks and was there when the body for that blue Rains arrived. What a gorgeous guitar it made.

Looks just like the one that I regret selling. It was a Mark Giles body also. I don't know what I was thinking when I sold that guitar.

Mark Greenway, What were you thinking when you sold that guitar? As friends I am just kidding you. That red Rains sounded great and played very well. Back to the topic, no one would be disappointed in a Rains steel guitar. If I had money I would buy a new one today.

yeah, that red one is sharp!

...ps...you get no credit for 'having owned' something. once you dump it, you've dumped it... and any prestige thet comes with it.

I am no PSG player but I have had mine several months now and absolutely love it! Had a guy here the other night (fellow forum member from Daytona Beach) who was buying some stuff from me and he couldn't resist giving my Rains a test drive.

He could not believe what an awesome piece of machinery my Rains was. Not too mention he sure made it sound AMAZING!

In the last couple of weeks I've sent more emails to hogue3@ntin.net but still nothing back. The Rains web site seems to be showing absolutely nothing now.
Would be grateful someone could tell me if there are any other email addresses or contact details I could try. I love the Rains I have and would like to add parts to it but if the service is not available would probably change to another make. I really hope this is not a long term problem.

That is the picture that comes up when the domain fee hasn't been paid. They will then try to sell you your web name back for an exorbitant fee.

The email for Curtis Hogue is a functional address. He and I have been emailing several times in the last couple of weeks.

Sometimes emails get kicked to a "junk mail" folder depending on settings.

Curtis is building guitars ans working very hard during the day at another job is what I understand. I believe he answers email in the evening.

I had a lift kit question and he answered promptly.

I called Curtis Hogue about this topic. He found Tony's email in his spam folder. He also had replied to them but they came back undelivered. He is working trying to get those men a response.

I became a Rains player in January of 2013.It is a "pre-owned"...I can't afford a new guitar. That was a very special day & it is a very special guitar to me because of all the people associated with it.When I talked to Gary & Curtis a couple of days after picking it up regarding a few parts & other "new owner" questions, you would've thought i'd just bought it brand new from them the way I was treated....these guys made me feel like not just a Rains player, but like a friend....I love my Rains & the tone is there...in abundance.I took it to Billy Knowles for him to check it out back in April,Clyde Mattocks was @ the shop that day & they both seemed to approve of it which says a lot to me,because they are the first I talk to when I need steel advice.I'm originally from NC,now SC,but have always had Texas in my heart....now even more so !!!Thanks for a wonderful instrument.
