SUNDAY, JUNE 16 - SCOTT MARTIN will be our featured artist. New format: steel jam from 2-4pm, featured artist 4-5pm. 290 West Bar & Grill, Austin, TX.
Scott began playing pedal steel in 1969 and played with groups including Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Country Joe McDonald, Freddy Fender, Tanya Tucker, Johnny Rodriguez, etc.
In 1977, he opened his first studio and focused on engineering. That led him to Nashville where he worked in the studio with Hoyt Axton, Mark O'Connor, Bill Monroe, Steve Winwood, Buddy Emmons, Paul Franklin, Lloyd Green, Tommy White, Bruce Bouton and others. "Even though I was engineering and wasn't playing that much while living in Nashville, my exposure to great players made a huge impression on the way I play today," he says.
Since moving to the Hill Country in 2000, he has had the opportunity to work with Joel Guzman, Kirk Covington, Mike Blakely, Redd Volkaert, Chuck Pyle, Gary P Nunn, McKay Brothers, Darcie Deville, Cornell Hurd, Bill Chambers, Peter Rowan, Pauline Reese, just to name a few.

I'll be bringing a bias probe, an ohm-meter, and a tube tester to today's meeting... if you've got a sick amp, bring it and we'll take a look. _________________ New FB Page: Lap Steel Licks And Stuff: https://www.facebook.com/groups/195394851800329 |

Thanks a bunch Steve..
Great time at the Austin Steel Guitar Coop jam today! Scott Martin played a set with an interesting mix of tunes, from "Invitation to the Blues" to "Harlem Nocturne". Someone brought in -- and immediately sold -- a double-neck Carter with 10 pedals! The house band (Rob Harding, Charlie Irwin and John Chandler) kept things rolling for the jam and for Scott Martin's set. San Antonio was in the house with trumpeter Dean Schilling, Commander Dave Goodman, Irene and Don. Plenty of burgers were enjoyed. Neil Flanz, Dave Biller and Herb Steiner were in attendance and Herb jumped in on the jam, led by Ken Metcalf. Chuck Interrante took photos, Steve Cowell handled video. _________________ MSA 12 String E9th/B6th Universal.

Scott knocked everyone out, but with his usual modesty downplayed his performance and asked for "a rematch!"
We will definitely accomodate him in the near future, and we welcome steel players of ALL levels to participate in our round-robin jam sessions. We also encourage pickers with items for sale to bring their guitars, amps, merch, etc. to our sessions.
The Carter steel was priced right and sold quickly, BTW. Happy seller, happy buyer. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |
