I just perchased a 1979 Fender Pro Reverb. The volume seems weak. It is at bed room levels with the master on 4-5 and the reverb chanel on 5 with a good amount of hum that gets louder with as the volume gets turned up. I have read that 3-4 is very loud and much higher than that it roars. An overhaul may be in order. Can the Pro Reverb owners let me know how loud yours are?

at those settings you should be peeling paint off the walls.
Most likely there is a tube problem - probably the phase inverter tube (closest one to the power tubes)
A quick way to test that theory is to swap it out with the 12AT7 that drives the reverb tank (you'll lose reverb, but you will know right away if the other tube is damaged when you get your volume back)
If that does not work, you may have a different sort of problem that would be internal to the amp.

| Yes it should be very loud. Have a tech check it out. It may need a cap job along with some tubes. |

| My '71 Pro Reverb will knock your hat in the creek, on 4, so you've definitely got a problem. New tubes can't hurt. |

Hum can be a bad sign... if one of the final tubes goes 'red-plate' (way too hot) then the hum goes way up and the sound goes way down. Check the fuse for rating... probably a 20A one in there. This amp should see a pro, soon.
