The Tonight Shows' (from the Doc Severinsen days) drummer, Ed Shaughnessy, passed on May 24th. He was one of my favorite drummers Sad

Definitely one of the tops in his field. One of my favorite video clips is of Ed and Buddy Rich locking horns.

The number of amazing musicians who played in the Tonight Show band is astounding. To think that folks like Ed Shaughnessy and Clark Terry played every night on tv is incredible to think about today.

I agree, Bill - Ed and the whole 'real' Tonight Show band rocked big time. Ed was a drummer's drummer, chops to burn but always applied with restraint and great taste.

RIP, Ed.

I was a drummer and guitar player in H.S. Jazz band; I'll never forget Ed did a clinic at the Kingsville, TX Jazz festival in the early '80s - he was incredible.
