Hey Yall,
I've finally made some progress on figuring out Paul Franklin's solo on Just Pickin', from the album Just Pickin'. I've wanted to learn it since I first started playing. It's a fantastic solo, really melodic and fast. Here is the A section, I'll post the B section at another time.
A few things - I haven't yet written it with the time notated. I don't have a way to host an audio file, but if someone does I'd be happy to record the solo at a slow tempo and send it to them so they can post it. Also, I'm not really sure if this is the way Mr. Franklin played it...the notes are correct I think, but not sure of the positions. This is what made the most sense to me. There are a lot of ways to play these same phrases, exploring that is an excellent exercise IMHO. Maybe someone who is more familiar with Paul Franklin's style can shed some light on where he might play this kind of thing on the neck. I hope this tab is helpful to someone. Have fun!
To clairfy - "B" indicates the B pedal and as such is only written on strings 3 and 6. "A" indicates the A pedal and in this case is only used on string 5. "L" indicates a half-tone lower on string 2.

Will, thanks for posting this. I hope you don't mind, but I took your tab and broke it down so I could make sense of it in smaller segments. I've found that I already knew parts of it. Now to get the speed up and splice it all back together. Again thanks and looking forward to the second part...

Dick - I don't mind at all, that is much more legible!
Workin more on the b section today...getting the right notes isn't the problem as much as figuring out where to play them. I'll upload a YouTube video of this first section. |
