Ken Metcalf wanted a box to series his 4ohm JBL's so he could run them with an 8ohm BF Single Showman (nice lookin' rig!). I whipped this up for him and thought I'd share it with y'all.
Notice the part about shorting jacks... you can harm your tube amp if you run into an open-circuit for a period of time. You can make the jacks on here shorting if you like... you can still have the problem if your speaker's unplugged, however. Not liable for operator error!

I've thought of a few more notes:
1.) The box will work if you mix up the ports... but the speakers will be out of phase unless you use input/output as specified.
2.) The enclosure must be plastic, or the jacks must be insulated. Don't use a metal box with normal jacks! _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |

Stephen, I used a '94 Twin OT, when I built my clone. I drilled a hole for a Marshall 4-8-16 ohm switch, and also added an extra (isolated) jack for the possibility of series connection.

As an extra bit of caution, I suggest using plastic 1/4" plugs on your speaker cables.
I have a series box like this for use on my PA & it got dropped (with metal plugs attached) onto a metal surface which shorted 2 of the plug housings for just a brief but destructive instant.
You can also cover the plug bodys with shrink tubing or electrical tape. _________________ "To live outside the law you must be honest." (Bob Dylan) |

Good point, Eric... one of the shields gets to be 'hot' with this rig. _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |

I, unfortunately, am not knowledgeable about the vast majority of these electrical issues you guys talk about.......and just wanted to say THANKS to all who contribute and explain in such a way that even a NOOB like me can glean some useful information along the way. |
