Got my new set of Paul Franklin Nickel Jagwire's which have a 12 gauge string for the 3rd string...I put it on my PR Mullen and sloooowly tuned it up...I backed the pedal adjustment way off, as I was concerned about 12 gauge over the 11 gauge I'd been using...anyhow while tuning the pedal she snapped at the tuner end and about 10 cents flat of being in tune...is anyone else using 12 gauge and having similar results?...I put on the 12 gauge from the Stainless set I also got and with fear and flinching got it tuned pedal and all...so far it's ok, but I am a little nervous!!!...Any advice???

I suspect you had a rough spot on the tuner.
I actually think 12s are more robust that either 10s or 11s. I accidentally took a 22 up to the same A

I use nothing but 12's on my Mullen. No problems. If it broke right at the hole in the tuner, possibly burr on the tuner, yes.
If it broke at the tuner end in front of the hole, then probably just a bad string.
If you suspect a tuner burr, you can try trading that tuner with another one from another string. |
