Here is my grand scheme. I have two Fender Excelsior amps.I use a Big Shot A-B-Y to play my National lap steel through both of them at once.It sounds great. But I'm thinking I should get a Big Shot PB1 power booster so I don't lose power. They say to put the power booster in front of the ABY box. I'm not up on all this "pedal-board" lingo. My question is, where's the front. If I have my volume pedal, a Blues Driver, a compression-sustainer,the ABY, and the power booster, what order do should they all be put. I know, it sounds dumb. But can someone draw me a map or something! I welcome any and all comments and advice.

Seems to me the logical place is after your other pedals. Putting a boost in front of the comp and OD will change the character of those fx.
But, first ask yourself if you perceive a problematic "loss of power". I've use a two amp rig with ABY box and never had a problem. Are you sure you need this PB1 device? |

James..What type of volume pedal are you using? If you have a Goodrich or other brand with two output jacks, wouldn't that would render the A-B-Y box redundant? |

Be sure to try the distortion before the volume pedal. _________________ MSA 12 String E9th/B6th Universal.

I use an Ernie Ball volume pedal. Here's what I'm asking.
From guitar to amps list the devices in the order they should be, including the power booster.
guitar...?...?...?...?...?...amps |

¹Not convinced you need one: Good volume pedal technique will do more.

The best way to find out is to just try out different combinations.
There is nothing set in stone, but usually any kind of booster goes early in the signal chain, so that it's boosting the actual instrument signal and not noise from other pedals. With that said, it will change the way that other signal boosting devices work, like the compressor and any overdrive/distortion pedal.
Just try different combinations. I try to keep pedals to a minimum, and with a tube amp that has natural compression, like the Excelsior, I would never even think of putting a compressor in the signal chain, but then I'm not a fan of compressor pedals.
The booster will also change the tone, and grit, on the Blues Driver, if you put it in front, but sometimes that's not a bad thing. Try and see if you like it.
IF it was my pedal board, going into two Excelsior amps, I would go Guitar-Power Boost-Blues Driver-volume pedal-ABY-Amp and I would probably never(or hardly ever) turn on the Blues Driver.
If you hit the preamp of those Excelsior amps with a hot powerful signal, it will sound better than the Bluesdriver. However I would keep the Bluedriver to try and get the same grit at a lower volume. _________________ http://www.oldbluesound.com/about.htm
