Looks like someone removed the logo off of a Marlen and stuck it onto a BMI. |

Guys,
This is one of Speedy's guitars. Speedy played BMI for a couple of years.

Guys,
I talked to Don, and he said that the steels that he built for Speedy West(Senior) had a volume knob mounted on the top of the pedal steel. If the guitar didn't have the knob it was probably built for Speedy's son, Speedy West(Junior),

Ok having looked at it, It would have been made for Speedy's son then. Thanks for the info,

Alan,
I guess anything is possible, but Don recalls only making the D10's for Speedy, and those had the volumn knob on the top.

Hello, My name is Andrew West (Speedy West III) although, i'm not a Big Steel Player, I have in-fact followed in my Grandfather's footsteps as a Performer (Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist), as my Father did (Speedy Jr.) Neither of us have made the Impact on the Music Industry, that Speedy Sr. did w/ Jimmy Bryant, but I've mananged to have a few Record Deals and Tour the United States, with 1 Nationwide Released Album, and my songs on various TV shows. No Big Money yet though lol. I wanted to clarify that This is in-fact one of Speedy West Sr.'s Personal Steel Guitars...which all of you know that he mostly played Marlen, but in his Personal Collection Room in Broken Arrow,OK he had all kinds of different steels that he'd collected/played over the years. There's even a few pictures i own, that are also on Google of him w/ BMI Steels. When Grandpa passed away, Dad and I went to pick up all the equipment and bring it back down to Oklahoma City, OK at which then, Dad began playing/using the steels Live. Dad played 6 Nights a week at various Bars/NightClubs, and thats how he made a living, his entire life...Dad (Speedy Jr.) was diagnosed w/ Lung Cancer 2 1/2years ago, and passed away 6mo. later...Now i have inherited Grandpa's and Dad's Equipment, which i now incorporate into my Live Performances too. There are several Steel Guitars that I am choosing to hold onto for myself, but i can't possibly see myself keeping some of these famous instruments locked away in storage...They Were Meant to played by someone who shares the Same Love and Compassion for Music, that My Grandfather and My Father did. So as time goes by, i'm trying to find the right person to sell certain pieces to, that would play them Live in front of people, as they were meant to be played, and that have a Respect of the History and Legend that they came from. I'm No Expert at Steel Guitars so my Knowledge is Limited, but if anyone here is interested, give me a call, text, or email. Thank You for your time, ~Andrew Speedy West 405.706.9151 |
