Check out today's playlist from a local DC public supported, jazz radio station, 89.3 FM. They have multiple programs featuring the full spectrum of jazz with my fav in the early AM sporting the expected icons and many unknown giants. The only thing missing on the playlist was Emmons selection, There Will Never Be Another You.

If you enjoy great instrumentals, I invite you to visit our stream. Sprinkled throughout the day, you'll hear Doug Jernigan, Lloyd Green, Buddy Emmons, Jack Mollette, Thumbs Carllile, Jim Loessberg, Jim Cohen, Jimmy Crawford, Gary Carter, The Texas Troubadours, Herby Wallace, Koos Beil, Sonny Garrish, Santo and Johnny. We play them all. . . everyday!
The interesting part is. . . we're not at all a country station, we just play "The Best Music Ever Made".
Hope you enjoy it. Here's the direct link:

I should point out Craig, 89.3Fm for the most part, is Afrocentric, spinning some superb adlib
recorded decades ago. A while back, a wonderful rendition of Skylark was being aired, one of the most
soulful pieces I ever heard. And guess what, there was pedal steel in the mix. I don't recall the artist
or steel player's name, but I do recall the young lady vocalist had utilized lots of steel on her CD. _________________ Assorted gear and a set of hands...

Thanks Gary,
It was a station like you describe where I discovered the music of Eva Cassidy. Being from the around the Beltway, you must be familiar with her songs. I saw one of my favorite entertainers, Steve Allen, at Blues Alley one night years ago. Someone asked him what he thought of the big bands. He replied: "Big Bands are coming back. . . and small audiences are coming with them."
That's the problem so many great performers face. Can't find access to an sizable audience.
Again thank you,
Craig |
