someone correct me if i'm wrong, the EH150s w: the angled pu were the follow up to the Charlie Christian series
they were built in the 40s
the ES300 pu was probably the originator of the P90
1940 EH150-7

| Yes the first pickup Gibson produced with the then new Anico magnets The ES 300 pickup is a great sounding pickup and the for runner to the P90 it a very big open sounding pickup probably due to its physical coil size ,to my ear the P90 sounds a little more constricted when compared side by side.Just my opinion. |

these series are harder to come by than the EH150s from the 30s
they can cost a bit more - depends on what you'll find .. 
i agree Kelvin, as much as i like the Charlie Christian pu, this one does have more body |

Were all these 150s a hollow body ? I have a '38 7-string with the Charlie Christian pickup, with the huge magnets inside of the body.
It was really falling apart when it was given to me, but I glued it back together and I play it occasionally. It's painted black now, since the sunburst finish was history, and it had cracks etc.
This one has an unusual sound. Maybe it's from all the West System epoxy I glued it together with   |

There was another design in between. Used on the EH-12 archtop guitar, it was a bar pickup, with adjustable polepieces. Conceived and first built in 1938. I have two on my D7 Grande Console. Wonderful-sounding pups!. See Vintage Guitar, May 13 issue. |

Okay, but the pic in Vintage Guitar is a lot clearer. My old cam will only let me get so close, then gets blurry. CC bobbins, no big magnets, and a fat coil. Very good sound.

| Yeah Bear! Custom order fur shure. Look at the size of those MOP block inlays.Very narrow, with the odd control panel. Only two long legs, with strange floor brackets. But,,,,, I need a 7-string bridge to restore it. |
