I am working on a solo arrangement for this and can't seem to find anything I like to carry through that section. I need to fill that long part that goes from the Am7 in the bridge to the conclusion of the "I know" part. Anybody have anything they like and are willing to share. I don't do tab.
Guess I might need to buy the sheet music just for that part. Darn.

Hi Niels,
Here's a link to a version I recorded last year. I always liked that tune.

Really nice job Chuck. That is what I was looking for in terms of other musicians approach. I will go back and listen some more. The overdub effect of the pedal was nice.
Thanks

I always thought one of the quirkiest things about that tune was the chords in the verses: Am Em G7 Am. The G7 sounds cool, but it's a quirky choice there.

Never trust sheet music. Listen carefully to Bill's guitar playing and you'll hear it.

Actually, you can hear it very clearly here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIdIqbv7SPo

I love Bill Withers.

Very nice, Chuck. I like how the character of the guitar comes through. What lap were you playing?

You are right Professor Mike,
I always tend to get burnt when it doesn't say as recorded. I actually here a couple of ways it might go. Am7 Em7 G or Am Em G7, I was just dropped to my knees by Eva Cassidy's version. Everything that women ever did stops me in my tracks.
The cool part is I can appreciate little changes now, but have the confidence to own my own version. I am loving my lap steel. Just been working through your book and well done. It is a different perspective of the same beast for me. Well getting off topic. Yea Bill is wonderful.

For sheet music their is , as published, as recorded and as performed. And maybe none of them are correct, but it doesn't really matter as long as you capture the essence.

Instead of singing "I Know" for days, I would sing 2 bars alone, and my band would sing harmony for two, we would hold the last "I Know" for 1 bar and then go into "I ought to leave ..... Worked for us.

Lorrie Morgan does a great version of "Ain't No Sunshine" on her live cd, and steel player Joshua Motohashi does an awesome lick before Lorrie and her backup singer Marcia Ware sing the "I Know" part, in addition to great steel and guitar solos

Hey Brett,
I really enjoyed that version and the steel and guitar solo gave me some ideas. Found some other songs also that I added, wasn't really familar with a lot of her work. I like her Thanks for the tip.
