I had one for years, when they fisrt came out back in the 70's and thought it was an excellent design.. gave me 5 really different and usable sounds.. I am considering getting one for a GFI Keyless I will be getting ...

Does anyone know exactly what the 5 way switching system does??.. Is it splitting the coils?.. series/parallel?.. Just cutting out some windings, IE "tapping" the coils??.. I would be interested in knowing..
any first hand knowledge would be helpful..

btw, I am on the lookout for a good used one if someone has one....bob

I bet the next question will be:

What is the value of the capacitor?

I've used them in my Universals for many, many, years, and love their versatility. I've found that by picking one of the switch positions (I like to start with pos.#3), and dialing in my amp's settings, gives me very useful tonalities from the other switch positions.

It's easy to start chasing one's tail with this pickup. It takes a while playing around with all the various switch positions to understand how to get one's other equipment dialed in so that all the switch positions become useful. Don't give up. It's worth the effort.

I think it's a very misunderstood pickup system.

That's too bad. Well, I guess I'll never be selling any of my steels with the 12-5s in them. I'll replace them with something else first. Oh Well Oh Well Oh Well

Bob:

I've got one that I bought new to go in my Sierra S-8 but instead I had Rick Aiello wind me up a "Dining Car".

I know the 10-5 is here somewhere and if you still need one, let me know and I will try to dig it up.

Bob:

I'd jump on Lee's deal if I were you. At that price I'm tempted myself even though I already have one that I don't need!

BOB, I dont have the rotary switch. there never was one on the steel when I bought It. The pickup was hooked up without it. Send me your phone number in a private message and I'll call you. Tennessee Lee.

Bob, I think the Emmons Co. sells a similar 5 way switch that they use on their Pentad pickup.

I see lots of them that look similar online .. I just don't know what the cap in the switch would be for... Not too worried about it.. I imagine it could also be wired with 2 DPDT micro switches on a bracket under the guitar.. maybe someone can enlighten me...

There is VERY little space under this guitar.. its a GFI S10 Keyless w/5 and 5.. Every inch under there is stuffed with rods and bellcranks.. I hestitate on drilling through the back apron.. Two DPDT "on-on-on" switches might be a better option... anyone know how ?... bob

What happened to your Avitar?
It was so effective. - Whenever I read your posts I imagined a New York city cab driver was talking to me in a Bronx accent. Very Happy

From the info Bob T. and Peter supplied I could draw up a schematic if you like. It is as you imply, ie, two tapped coils. It may be hard to accomplish all variants with a couple of DPDT switches.
I owned one and recall using no1 and no3 variant exclusively.

Jim,

I for sure would like a drawing of this monster. I wanted to hook mine up and play around with it. I'm not one of you pro's, just a wanna be. I sure would like to have a copy. Be glad to pay for your troubles with it. I have a pair of 2 pole, 6 position rotary switches and can get any other that I might need.

You will have my contact methods below.

Thanks a million and may God bless you and yours,

Ronald Smith

I have some of the Emmons switches for Emmons Pentads. They are 5 way switches.
