Cymbal rouge or Simichrome polish works well, but you'll have to rub the daylights out of it if it's very deep. My favorite tool is a Dremel with the polishing pad and a little bit of rubbing compound or even Simichrome, depending on how deep the groove is. Some use wet/dry sandpaper, but do so with caution. YOU DON'T WANT TO CREATE A FLAT SPOT OR GOUGE.

I'm with Larry, the Dremel works great. I do it outside the house so the rubbing compound doesn't end up on the drapes. |

I had that just yesterday, on the top of one changer finger the chrome or whatever it is was cracked and the metal underneath showed through. Caused a very annoying "buzz" in the string. I tried to smoothen it with a steel wool pad, (those for pots etc.) first but that didn´t work. So I took very fine sandpaper - first #600 and then #1200 to finish it. I know some people warn to never do that but I went ahead anyway and guess what - it did the job just fine, now there is no more buzz. If you want to try it, I´d suggest to use the finest sandpaper available. Get #2000 if you can find it.
Good luck, Joe H. |

A Dremel Tool is a high speed drill used for hobbies. Dremel is a brand name, there are other brands that do the same.
They run at around 35OO RPM. You can do your own dentistry.

I cut very fine wet/dry type sand/buffing "paper" (the cloth type) into strips the width of the chager finger and polish the surface like shining your shoes. |

Heh, you use the nail file sticks for polishing your changer, and my wife dips into my wet/dry sandpaper for doing her nails... something is majorly wrong here folks! |
